Hello and welcome!
I'm D.C. Salmon, author of the A Newman Adventure series, which begins with my debut mystery novel, An Irish Mystery.
While I now craft stories with words, my journey started in a much more hands-on world. I'm a qualified joiner by trade, and spent my early years building bespoke bedrooms, kitchens, and custom furniture. That craftsmanship led me to open my own shop here in Peterborough, where I sold furniture until 2009.
Today, life looks a bit different. I’m a Site Manager at a Primary School, where I handle everything from risk assessments to team management - not quite the old-school “caretaker” stereotype! It’s a job that keeps me grounded and busy.
Outside work, I’m a proud husband, father, and grandfather (with another grandbaby on the way!). I also coach Level 2 Rink Hockey (roller hockey), which means lots of evenings at the rink and weekends on the road. And then there’s Bear, our American Akita — who keeps life extra interesting at home.
How did writing begin?
Like many, the 2020 lockdowns gave me unexpected time. One day, after finishing a book, I had a simple thought:
“Maybe I’ll write my own.”
That idea led to the creation of An Irish Mystery. I wrote it just for fun, without big plans but the more I wrote, the more I loved it. I didn’t expect to publish anything, and now… here we are!
What I Write
The Newman Adventure books blend mystery, history, and light-hearted adventure, with a cast of quirky but loveable characters. I write in stolen moments on my phone, late at night, or between coaching sessions. My process is a bit messy, but I get there in the end.
This blog is where I share the ups and downs of indie publishing:
-
From first reviews (even the 3-stars!)
-
To royalty statements
-
To wondering what to write next.
I hope it offers a little insight — and maybe a few laughs — along the way.
