Hello everyone,
We are getting so close now! It feels like the publication of my debut novel, "An Irish Mystery," is just around the corner, which is both incredibly exciting and slightly nerve-wracking.
Right now, the manuscript is with a trusted reader who does some ARC reading for me. After writing, reading, and editing the story countless times myself, I felt it was crucial to get a completely fresh pair of eyes on it one last time before it goes out into the world. Fingers crossed everything is looking good! Of course, this might not be the absolute final step – if this read-through flags any more edits, however minor, there might be another quick round of approvals needed.
I have to admit, I'm at that point where I'm really eager for the book to be out, or at least to have a firm release date! There are practical reasons too – I need things like the ISBN or ASIN number sorted so I can start looking into advertising opportunities on various sites. I'm sure my publishers are probably keen to finalise things too!
So, what happens once "An Irish Mystery" is finally published? I hear you ask! Well, the adventure doesn't stop there. Book 2 in the Newman Adventure series is already written and ready to go! This next instalment carries on from the events of the first book but is set mainly in the State of Virginia, USA. While there will be some subtle references back to Book 1 for those who've read it, you should be able to enjoy Book 2 as a standalone story too.
One thing I've definitely learned from the process with "An Irish Mystery" (especially after finding all those little things during the final edits!) is the importance of multiple self-editing passes before it even gets near the publisher. I've already started reading through Book 2 again – I'm about 45,000 words in – trying to catch any mistakes or repetitive phrases early. Hopefully, once Book 2 is ready for proofreading and cover design, the process might be a little smoother this time around.
Now, Book 2... are you intrigued yet?
I'm so sorry, but I'm not quite ready to reveal the full plot just yet! What I can tell you is that writing the antagonist for this book was one of my favourite parts. This individual is a truly ruthless rival to Cedric and Hans, driven by the unwavering belief that they are claiming what is rightfully theirs, and they are willing to stop at nothing.
Book 2 definitely ramps up the tension from the first book and pushes the series forward. I hope its characters will keep you completely drawn in, page after page. Expect deceit, violence, betrayal... and maybe even murder!
I truly believe that once you read "An Irish Mystery," you won't be able to wait for the follow-up. Stay tuned for more news on Book 1's release!
Best,ho
