Hi everyone!
I wanted to share a little bit about the journey that led me to this point – the decision to finally publish 'An Irish Mystery.' It wasn't a straightforward path, and it involved a mix of inspiration, self-doubt, and ultimately, a surge of confidence.
It all started with reading. At the end of last year, I found myself drawn to the adventure, treasure hunt, and mystery genres. I devoured books by some New York Times bestselling authors, and a thought began to form: 'I think my stories are better than these.'
Now, I know how that might sound! It wasn't about ego, but about a growing conviction in my own voice. If you don't believe in your work, how can you expect anyone else to? So, I decided to take a leap of faith.
My initial goal wasn't even about sales or readership. It was simply about getting my story out there. I sent my manuscript off to a self-publishing editing company (yes, I did my research first!) with a mix of trepidation and hope.
The reply I received... it humbled me. To have someone, a professional, write so positively about my work was an incredible affirmation. It was that moment that solidified my decision: 'Yes, I can do this.'
Looking back, the seeds of 'An Irish Mystery' were planted during the COVID lockdown. I was only working one day a week at a school for the children of frontline workers, so I had a lot of time on my hands. Boredom, as it often does, sparked creativity.
I started with a simple question: 'If Hans is getting out of jail, how does that process work in America?' My research began in Arizona, then expanded to different jail systems. From that initial spark, the story escalated, evolving into the complex narrative that 'An Irish Mystery' is today.
It's a story I poured my heart into, filled with characters like Daniela Fischer and Cedric Newman, and I truly hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
